Mike Porterfield is 1989 graduate of Northeastern University and is currently the principal broker of Tartan Properties Commercial. During his time on the Charles River, the Huskies won a bronze medal at the Eastern Sprints, a bronze and silver at the former National Championship Regatta (Cincinnati) and the gold at the IRA Championship in 1988. Mike went on to row in 5 World Championships with the US National Team, highlighted by winning a silver medal in 1991, with two former teammates from NU. Following his competitive career Mike went straight into coaching including guiding the women's pair to a bronze medal in the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Mike now lives in Alexandria with his wife, where they have raised their three children. Their youngest, Braden, joined the Northeastern rowing team in the fall of 2021.
