The 2010's - Building to Mid-Decade Success

Thanks to Tom Gates '73, Erik Wessel '14, Dale Jordan '16

Summary of 2010 to 2019

This 2010 to 2019 period in NU Rowing history was the second decade of John Pojednic as Head Coach.  During this period NU saw five other Associate or Assistant coaches supporting Coach Pojednic.  This included four former NU oarsman, David Burke, Dan Walsh, Ted Sobolewski and Justin Jones.  In addition, Ted Benford was an Associate Coach and went on to be the Executive Director of Community Rowing in Boston.  As the 2010 and 2011 seasons started, there was a need to build team depth with new freshman.  Freshman eights won Bronze at the 2011 Sprints and Silver at the 2012 Sprints and Bronze at the 2012 IRA.  This would help the varsity level team succeed with a number of medals in the middle of the decade.  This included Varsity Bronze at 2013 Sprints and Silver at the 2015 Sprints.  The 2V won Gold at the 2014 Sprints and Bronze at the 2015 Sprints. While the later part of 2017 to 2019 had a no eight boat medals, there were a number of times the team entered the championship finals at the Sprints and IRA.

2012 Team History

Christoph Kapp ’13, 2012 Team Captain

2011-2012 season - Accelerating momentum and long-term focus.

After the Inflection point in the year prior, the fall 2011/spring 2012 season was a year of youth, excitement, and positive “can do” attitude. The heavily recruited and already extremely talented freshmen and sophomore classes brought a contagious energy and optimism that fed the culture.

It was a true privilege to be a part of and serve as team elected Captain of this incredible group of individuals. - Christoph Kapp
