The 2010's - Building to Mid-Decade Success

Thanks to Tom Gates '73, Erik Wessel '14, Dale Jordan '16

Summary of 2010 to 2019

This 2010 to 2019 period in NU Rowing history was the second decade of John Pojednic as Head Coach.  During this period NU saw five other Associate or Assistant coaches supporting Coach Pojednic.  This included four former NU oarsman, David Burke, Dan Walsh, Ted Sobolewski and Justin Jones.  In addition, Ted Benford was an Associate Coach and went on to be the Executive Director of Community Rowing in Boston.  As the 2010 and 2011 seasons started, there was a need to build team depth with new freshman.  Freshman eights won Bronze at the 2011 Sprints and Silver at the 2012 Sprints and Bronze at the 2012 IRA.  This would help the varsity level team succeed with a number of medals in the middle of the decade.  This included Varsity Bronze at 2013 Sprints and Silver at the 2015 Sprints.  The 2V won Gold at the 2014 Sprints and Bronze at the 2015 Sprints. While the later part of 2017 to 2019 had a no eight boat medals, there were a number of times the team entered the championship finals at the Sprints and IRA.

2015 Team History

By Dale Jordan ‘16

The 2014-2015 season started off with a strong Fall that saw the dogs take 1st in the Club 8+ at Head of the Charles, with the Champ 8+ taking 13th (8th Collegiate).

The winter season was challenging as always, and proved to be one of the few years during our time at Northeastern that Boston didn't win a professional sports championship. Spring break saw a training trip to Tampa Bay where some of the boys went skydiving (yes, from an airplane). There was also an extracurricular trip to Bahama Breeze one evening that quickly pivoted to Hulk Hogan's Beach bar across the street after we discovered that the coaching staff had also elected to make a trip to Bahama Breeze on the same evening.
