About the event

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the NU 1973 Grand Challenge crew at Henley that rowed in the final against the Russian National team.  50 years later, that whole nine man crew is returning to Henley to do an historic row over the Henley-on-Thames course and celebrate with other NU Alumni and friends the history of NU Men's rowing at Henley.  Come join the 1973 crew of Cox Frank Leahy, Stroke Calvin Coffey, 7 Brian O'Connor, 6 John Maslowski, 5 Peter Karasski, 4 Chris Meehan, 3 Jack Irving, 2 Bill Backman, Bow Geoff Marshall at this historic reunion.  There have been 13 different NU boats that have rowed at Henley in the 68 year history of the Men's Program.  See the list of all the NU teams that have raced at Henley.

If you have never been to Henley, this could be a great opportunity to join other alumni and friends to witness the best of rowing at the quintessential home of rowing and best summer social venue there is to experience.  Henley races run from Tuesday, June 27 to Sunday, July 2.  The 1973 50th row is expected to occur on Saturday July 1, during the Henley lunch hour.  This will be a time to enjoy the races and social atmosphere at Henley.

If you have any interest in rowing or rowed at some point and have not been to Henley, this is a Bucket List destination to visit and this is a great opportunity to do it with friends of NU Rowing.  Please register if you are interested or plan to attend the 2023 Henley and start planning your trip.  If you would like more information, your may contact any one of the following.  Chris Meehan '75 (, Tim Lenhard '90 (, or Brian O'Connor '75 (
