Assistant Coach

Appier returned to Northeastern as a volunteer assistant in March 2020, spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Huskies, and was promoted to associate head coach in 2023.

In 2022-23, Appier helped guide the Huskies to a sixth-place finish in the first varsity at the IRA Championships, up two spots from an eighth place finish in 2021-22. Northeastern had strong performances in each boat at the national championships in which all three reached the A/B Semifinal, the first varsity advanced to the Grand Final for the third time in the last four championships (2023-21, 2019), after an exciting semifinal race that saw the Huskies overtake rival Harvard in the final meters of the race. Alongside Head Coach Alex Perkins, Appier also collected the IRCA Leadership Award, given annually to a coach or administrator who has shown great leadership and become a role model for collegiate rowing.

In 2021-22, Appier helped lead the Huskies in a year that saw the first varsity upset Stanford at the Pac-12 Challenge, and picked up dual wins over Penn, BU and Wisconsin. Appier helped guide the three Northeastern boats at IRA’s that saw the first varsity finish second in the petite final with an open water advantage over third-place Princeton, second varsity win in the third level final, and the varsity four finish third in the petite final.
